1. Description/Deskripsi:
This course provides an introduction to various media and their modes, methods, and themes. We will explore the role of the media in shaping social consciousness, global economies, and material culture. Examples drawn from film, television, print media, and digital environments will be contextualized, analyzed, and theorized as crucial elements of our media culture. Students will gain an appreciation for the social, cultural, economic, and political influences of global communications while performing close readings of conventional media objects. Assignments will help to cement insights gained through close investigation of digital objects, films, television, music videos, and more.

2. Learning Outcomes/Unsur Capaian Pembelajaran :
By the end of the semester, students will have developed:
a. the ability to identify key media studies vocabularies, theories, and methodologies in order to analyze media objects within their social, cultural, and historical context;
b. the research skills required to locate, assess, and curate sources in print and digital environment and to answer complex analytical questions about media objects;
c. basic media production skills;
d. the ability to reflect on their personal media encounters with critical awareness and to enjoy the rigorous analysis of media texts and practices.
