Course Description:

This course aims to improve the students' proficiency to express and convey their message and intensions in both intelligible and comprehensible written English within the competence standards of CEFR B2 with the focus on reading and writing skills. In this course, students are also introduced and exposed to varieties of academic essays that are closely related to IELTS. In a class where International students are present, the course will also provide the opportunity for the students to be exposed to World Englishes and, thus, become aware of identity considerations and cultural sensitivity.


Upon completion of this course, students will be able to use the foreign language in such a way to cope with the requirements of those situations they are likely to find themselves in, particularly:

  1. situations involving practical transactions in everyday life;
  2. situations involving personal interaction, enabling the learners to establish and maintain social contacts as well as to engage in meaningful relations in various domains of public life (e.g. business, education, welfare, entertainment);
  3. situations involving indirect communication, requiring the understanding of the gist and relevant details of spoken and written texts.

This course explores the students’ language proficiency in the professional setting.  In this course, the students are also applying the use of English in the key areas of professional business communication.  This course allows for the students to simulate and practice the use of English for Professional Context relevant to their fields of study.

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to:

1. demonstrate their spoken and written English competence in professional settings

2. develop confidence and increase motivation in applying their language skills professional settings;

3. enhance their language skills in the key areas of business communication: making business correspondence, taking part in meetings, negotiating, presenting graphs.

Welcome to English 3 course!

This course explores the students’ ability in planning, researching, organising, drafting and producing Academic papers. In this course, the students are also learning how to cite and reference in Academic Writing to minimise plagiarism. The students will also examine different types of academic articles relevant to their field of study.

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to:

  1. demonstrate their ability in Academic English writing skill in particular;
  2. be more confident and motivated in applying their language skills in academic settings;
  3. acquire knowledge about academic writing and demonstrate their academic writing competence in different types of paragraphs and essays;
  4. acknowledge & generate ideas, organize materials, draft, review and revise academic written texts;
  5. demonstrate their knowledge of sentence structures and language proficiency and apply them in different types of academic written text.
